MH-47E Chinook

A MH-47E Chinook from the US Army's 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment (SOAR), or the 'Nightstalkers'. The black dome on the MH-47E's left front belongs to a Texas Instruments AN/APQ-174A radar. The AN/APG-174A is amulti-mode radar with modes for terrain-following down to 30 m (100 ft), terrain-avoidance, air-to-ground ranging and ground-mapping. This radar, combined with the Hughes AN/AAQ-16 FLIR mounted in a turret under the chin and a Night Vision Goggles (NVG) compatbile cockpit, enables the MH-47E to operate around the clock and in all weathers.
